The Casey and BellaTM Annual Writing Contest

The Casey and BellaTM Writing Contest was created to foster creativity for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The idea for the Casey and BellaTM Story contest came about when the author, Jane Lovascio, visited schools and saw how excited children were to share their own Casey and Bella story ideas. Jane started a contest that would provide children an opportunity to have their story idea professionally published as the next book in the Casey and BellaTM book series!
The Casey and Bella Story contest was created to foster creativity in 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Therefore, entries will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Creativity and originality of title and adventure.
2. Creativity and originality of the 3 new characters introduced in the story.
3. The moral or lessons learned in the story.
Guidelines for story entries:
Casey and Bella Must be the Main Characters in the Story.
· Where, when, or how do Casey and Bella travel?
· Whom do they meet on their journey?
· What lesson do they learn?
· No rhyming necessary.
· Please aim for under 1500 words, but you will not be penalized if you go over 1500 words.
· Full page format or page breaks accepted.
· All entries must be the fully original creations of the entrants.
Deadline for story entries is April 15, 2013
*Final judging will be done by a panel of literary experts. Jane Lovascio does read every single story! The final decision of the judges is final in all matters relating to this contest.

Third, fourth, and fifth graders…residents of the United States or Canada submitting original, and unpublished work.

Entries can be submitted by mail or e-mail, and must be postmarked by APRIL 15, 2013 to be eligible.
- All entries must be complete with all the requested information.

- All entries must be typed or computer-printed and double-spaced on one side. (8 ½ x11 white paper).
- Each electronic entry should be submitted only once.
- 1500 words or less, in the English language, submitted in readable font, double-spaced.
- One entry per student.
- Every entry will be read by judges. Judges' decisions are final.
- Entries will not be returned and become sole property of author.
- Finalists will be notified by e-mail May 15, 2013.

2. RESPONSIBILITY: All legal responsibilities of a contestant under these official rules (hereinafter, the “Contest Rules”) will be assumed by the contestant's parent or legal guardian, who must sign the official entry form and an additional release form if winners’ photos are to be used.
